M850i vs 650i - Should your trade in??

Battle of the Gran Coupe's and not the top level, some call it the sweet spot of the line up where you have all the power but less the sporty sometimes audacious antics found with extended flared arches and crackles from the exhausts. The before the best also usually saves you 20-40% off of the top-level sports model base price.  Here we are with two options to keep your older but still sexy bangle bodied 650i or move up to the recently released M850i. Will quickly go through the differences of each model and why the upgrade may be worth it in some people's minds. Let's make one thing clear the beauty of these cars is enough for you to have success whether you buy the new or keep your old model.  What's new in the M850i, it all starts with power output:

BMW M850i - 523 HP and 553 LB TQ vs BMW 650i - 445 HP and 480 LB TQ

The differences are big, and the retuned 8 Speed ZF shifts faster which should turn the tail of the tape for the stats for performance as such:

We see the numbers but that's not the only knock out of the park. The exterior proportions as well as interior space, prove that this is not just another change for the dollars, the M850i presence, and added space prove to be superior to what some call its outgoing model in more than just the muscular front fascia. But let's quickly jump into that from the front to the sides you see arches flares, vents, and new quad exhausts that give you the Crackle and Pop for the M850i which brings BMW back into the game as some say the soundtrack was an issue in the past. The soul was missed but another clear variant from the 650i will be the handling, derived straight from an 8 Series GT chassis this will be the better handling model, where the outgoing model was based on the old 7 Series there is no effect to plushness when strolling through the city with this model:

Guess which one is newer???

Where I think the 650i is holding its own, I can't help but say that I think the 650i interior infotainment layout in some lights looks more upscale and high end than the M850i. In every other respect, it's difficult for the 650i to complete with years of improvement and punches to the face from the AMG CLS 53 4 Door there is only one way to look at this war zone where only 1 can stand tall. Here goes my trouble and it's respect to the price point at a $117K sticker for the M850i and a decent low mileage 2017 650i running you in the $30 to $40k mark could one get 60% of the M850i because there is no way you can account for the space gains with the new model. It's one to think about but the mere presence of the M850i causes those who pondered about keeping there 650's to the baseline. In this case, the new model wins out simply because this may be the most aggressive BMW Model since the M3 and M4, I happen to appreciate these new aggressive lines and wholeheartedly hope they show through in the BMW M5 refresh. Tough choices but it's a can't go wrong scenario if you have the clout by up if you don't the 650i is a great keeper or consolation prize.
