2020 Benz-AMG GLE 63 S - Hammer goes high

With over 624 Horsepower available at 5750 - 6500 RPM and 811 LB-FT in short burst in the 2500-4500 RPM range the Hammer high as I call it returns to the game with a few new tricks to up its game. If you look at the figures above this short burst as I call it comes from a tool called EQ Boost, we just enjoyed the Tesla Model 3 performance this weekend this model takes a few of the immediacy points of an electric drive train through the use of boosters which combined with the Petrol cause some cruel intentions to some sports cars that feel like your not up to the driving tasks. This segment was owned by the following competitors in the last two years, the Jeep Trackhawk, BMW X5M, Porshe Cayenne Turbo S, and Range Rover SVR were all noteworthy options for the luxury Super Sports Ute segment. The issue comes into play with age most of these offerings coming out at such different times, the Turbo S has the latest design as the BMW has yet to be released, and the SVR not yet showing any future the pickings are kinda slim but a supercharged 6.2L V8 can never get old from the Jeep Trackhawk.  Enter in the hammer:

Suspension:
We all know about the AMG's well acclaimed 4.0L TT V8 engine it is used across the line-up,  and also across brands, you will see an article on the Aston Martin DBX shortly. The area of a lot of question marks in which Benz has cleared up in its GT 63 AMG S offering is the handling. Here are some points of notoriety outside of the engine that could make this vehicle very special in the SuperSport Ute category. Straight from the German Benz writers themselves, we have this

AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL roll stabilization
The AMG-specific dynamics configuration is greatly enhanced by the active roll stabilization system ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL with 48-volt power. This system precisely compensates for changes in vehicle movement

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution

The performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system continuously ensures the best possible ratio of performance dynamics, high traction, and efficiency. An electromechanically controlled clutch connects the permanently driven rear axle variably to the front axle. The best possible torque split is continuously computed according to the driving conditions and driver's input. The transition from rear-wheel to the all-wheel drive and vice versa is seamless, as the intelligent control is integrated into the overall vehicle system architecture. Alongside traction and lateral dynamics, the all-wheel-drive also improves the longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration. Torque distribution is influenced by the driving speed, the lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and the steering angle, and also the difference in rotational speed between the individual wheels and the gear selected.

The all-wheel drive is controlled depending on the selected stage of the 3-stage Electronic Stability Program ESP® – from sporty with a focus on safety to highly dynamic. The 4ETS dynamic handling control system further enhances handling safety and agility, in particular on slippery surfaces or on surfaces with different friction coefficients. It uses brake interventions to keep individual driven wheels from spinning when starting off or accelerating. At the same time, the differential locking effect enables the drive torque to be shifted to the wheels that are not spinning.

Locking Differential:
The electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering has a variable ratio. It impresses with its precise feedback thanks to the AMG-specific rack-and-pinion steering with a variable ratio. The steering assistance is assigned to the various stages of the AMG DYNAMICS system. The configuration in "Basic" and "Advanced" is comfort-oriented. In "Pro" and "Master", a configuration is programmed that supports a sporty driving style and provides more road feedback.

One of the key proponents that is sometimes glossed over when discussing the performance potential it the ability for a vehicle to stop once it is in the corner, it is probably outside of the tire one of the more important factors for control that we continuously gloss over.

AMG High-performance brakes:
GLE 63 S includes a large and highly-effective high-performance brake system. Featuring 6-piston fixed brake calipers and 16 x 1.5-inch brake discs at the front, plus single-piston floating brake calipers and 14.6 x 1.3-inch discs at the rear. The GLE 63 S also features red brake calipers to make sure you have confidence events at high speeds.

Drivetrain:
To keep up with the engine a more dynamic array of drive modes has been introduced including a Race Mode to highlight the AMG's sporty intentions, don't  be fooled by all of the sports car handling this is a dual purpose beast as AMG makes sure to highlight that this has a Trail Mode, as well as a Sand Mode for all the work that this will be doing in the Sands of Dubai.  The 9G speed TCT is sure to keep up with any occasion that you beckon Benz claims this is faster than ever before, but why wouldn't it be its brand new and the AMG GT 63 S already has it.

Specs:
Engine: 4.0L TT V8
HP and TQ: 603 HP EQ boost 21 HP / 627 LB TQ EQ boost 184 LB TQ
Transmission: 9 Speed

Top Speed: 174 MPH

Looks "In and Out":
A very attractive and muscular body the AMG makes sure to differentiate itself from the standard models, equipped with either 21 inch or 22-inch wheels, the front bumper makes sure you realize you're in the AMG with a new radiator grill vertical louvers that have an Arrow shape. The side skirts bolstered to highlight the AMG detail as well as a specific aggressive rear diffuser with a pipe that contains 4 quads to make sure the world outside know of its brawn.

Getting "In" is a familiar place, Nappa Leather, the all familiar AMG infotainment lay a small footprint of the AMG Modeling. MBUX infotainment, combined with flat-bottom steering well telling the driver and family this is something different. Welcome to the new age of the driving experience. AMG lays down the hammer in many ways and this may by far the sexiest yet sporty AMG yet.
