Literally, the commoner seat is a true statement and is the beginning of the life for the bench seats. In the early days, chairs were reserved for those of importance in society and the benches were left on the side for the average joe this was the way of life in early aristocrat society. Ohh how things have changed the Bench has morphed into several more things than just a freestanding chest with armbars. This seating area can now be called an

Most folks wouldn't group these but in all when you break down the concept it is simply an extension of the bench. Common uses include seating area near a window for exterior views, additional seating area for the bedroom (bed extension), corner pockets for living spaces (replacing for floor lamps), centrepieces for living room seating areas or extension of the furniture. 

  

How important is this piece believe it or not adding an ottoman to your space of living adds a certain amount of value to the living space. The many uses for a place of storage, a seating area, and an extension of the couch provide an alternative to the empty space with carpet or the two-seat, three seat couch duo.  The old adage of the commoner is gone and this new iteration of the bench seat truly brings this piece to a new realm-one that makes you look like the upper class of society in this stage.
