BMW is trying to give Audi a Middle #$%% - BMW M8 Gran Coupe Released

First the Panamera Turbo S, than the Benz AMG GT 63S 4 Door, last week the Audi RS7, yea there coming in droves the gran sport coupe are making a splash in the last 3 months and the top-spec sports models are being released. Mercedes started this segment now we have a swath of choices that are probably the most attractive of the segment outside of the 4 door wagon entries which happen to be biased selection. The commonality that all these cars boast are strong sleek coupe-like outside features, a pension for attention whether it be the exhaust note or the sidewalk views you'll get stepping into the full-figured hourglass model they call the 4 door coupe. For petrol heads, these are dreams that were only thought of after warm milk and cookies, when all of the competitors attach a V8 Twin Turbo engine, with over 550 HP with 0-60 times in under 3.5 seconds it's only a selection of taste that separate these beast for purchase and did I mention that german thing where there all limited to a low 189 MPH !!! top speed. Hopefully, Oktoberfest can bring the truth out.

Let's get into the BMW M8 Gran Coupe based on the well crafted BMW M8 Coupe sharing the same chassis just extended by 200mm, the car is befitted with the gift of serving multiple purposes and a good argument for a family of 4 to finally look at buying a coupe to do the daily shopping routines. Thanks to the chassis sharing this car may be able to maneuver the track, but probably weighing over 4,400 lb due to the all-wheel-drive system some may argue a little too heavy to be calling it a 911 taker ... but let's be careful road feel sometimes doesn't equal on-road performance and judging by the times of BMW's main competitor the GT 63 AMG 4 Door on the Nurburing of 7:25 second time, that's equal to the time of an Aventador LP700 and 1 second off the Carrera GTS so sometimes it's the electronic computer that counts. Cozy Long Distance affairs or Canyon Carvers this coupe is effectively the premium choice for all the purpose athlete.

I can't leave out the specifications so let's take a peek what you get in Standard/Competition form:

Engine & Trans: 4.4L TT V8 & 8 M Steptronic transmission
HP & TQ: 625 HP and 553 LB TQ Comp. / 600 HP and 553 LB Stand.
0-60:  3.2 sec. Comp. / 3.3 Stand.
Top Speed (Lmt): 189 MPH with comp package
Lateral G (Approx.): .99g

So let's get into what will make this car special, and we love bullet points because it's CLEANER......
  • Customary M-car power delivery: high-revving 4.4-liter V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology develops up to 460 kW/625 hp. Cooling and oil supply systems designed for track use. Sports exhaust system with electronically controlled flaps delivers a stirring engine soundtrack.
  • Masterful power transfer courtesy of eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel-drive system linked with the Active M Differential. Choice of three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD with pure rear-wheel drive and deactivated driving stability control.
  • Standalone body design with M-specific features: wheelbase 200 millimeters longer than two-door BMW M8 models, dynamically flowing roofline, large air intakes, BMW kidney grille with double bars, M gills on the side panels, rear spoiler and rear apron with diffuser elements and twin exhaust tailpipes.
  • Weight of body and chassis construction minimized, rigidity optimized; carbon-fiber roof, low center of gravity, wide tracks, precisely tuned aerodynamic balance.
  • M-specific chassis with electronically controlled dampers, M Servotronic steering. DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) including M Dynamic Mode.
  • New M Mode for the individual configuration of driver assistance system interventions and instrument cluster / Head-Up Display screens. BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe drivers can select from ROAD, SPORT and TRACK settings.

So now what can anyone tell, you have the best of all worlds, Super Cruising or Canyon Carvings we may have seen the best drivers car of the Grand Coupe segment as the M5 Competition reigns supreme for the sedans. Were waiting for this to get near us to get the full spectrum of it's capability, for now, enjoy the photos and wait for these at a dealership near you in 2020, the price point should be $156K starting. Let the M's be with you.....
